Roxborugh State Park has several kid-friendly hiking trails to choose from. The terrain is very similar to Garden of the Gods. There are impressive rock formations and it is much less crowded than Garden of the Gods!
We took the South Rim trail which goes down and around, up a hill, and will offer some beautiful views of Denver! There are several shorter hikes- the Lyons Overlook trail was recommended to us by the park ranger as a good hike with younger kids.
Roxborough State Park is located in Roxborough, CO, about 1 hour from Colorado Springs and 15-ish minutes from Denver. The drive was relatively easy and even takes you near the entrance to Chatfield State Park.
There are two smallish parking lots at Roxborough State Park. We had read that if the parking lots are full then you have to wait in your car until a spot opens up. There was plenty of parking on the day that we went, but always call ahead to scope out the parking situation.
Boys’ ages at time of hike- 7, 5, 3. Not stroller friendly.
