Cabin Cañon Trail in Garden of the Gods is another kid-friendly hike that’s pretty easy and offers great views of Pikes Peak and Cheyenne Mountain.
We enjoyed this hike on Day 8 of our Colorado Springs Staycation.
To access this trail head, follow the signs to Balanced Rock, then park just before Balanced Rock in Parking Lot 14. This trailhead is the same as where you would start the Siamese Twins Trail.
This trail is a loop and you can start from either end- one end is at the entrance to Parking Lot 14, the other end is in the parking lot. The total distance of the loop is .69 miles.
We started the Cabin Cañon Trail from the parking lot spot. Almost immediately the trail splits off- however the sign for Cabin Cañon Trail had fallen off. Go left for Cabin Cañon Trail and go right for the Siamese Twins Trail.
This first part of the trail was not maintained very well- the steps were falling apart and there were a lot of rocks on the trail. Nonetheless we were able to make it to the top with no problems. The 2 older boys (ages 5 and 3) also had no problem climbing up.
At the top there are smaller rock formations. All 3 boys were happy as can be throwing rocks and digging in the dirt. They were covered in red dirt in no time.
This is a great hike when you want to go somewhere new and it is not nearly as crowded as some of the more popular trails.
Boys’ ages at time of hike: 5, 3, and 16 months.
Not stroller friendly, not recommended in wet weather.
