Besides being home to hundreds of kid-friendly trails, Colorado Springs also is home to the Air Force Academy. This means that at the end of every school year, we get a front row seat to an amazing air show- free of charge!
For as long as I can remember the graduation has been on a Wednesday, and since I work in the office on Wednesday’s I have missed the show and my kids have never seen the Thunderbirds. However, this past year (2015), the graduation was on a Thursday so all of us were excited to watch the air show for the first time as a family!
The air show follows the graduation ceremony, so the times are usually approximate. The air show usually falls around lunch time, so pack a lunch and find some grass somewhere on the north end of town! Last year the traffic was insane, so the earlier you leave the better.
Our church, New Life Church, opens up their parking lot for guests as an easy place to watch the airplanes.
Some of the best views would be anywhere off of Interquest, Voyager, Northgate. Monument also has a great view. Some side streets in Gleneagle also offer a fantastic viewing point. In the past I have seen signs with businesses offering use of their parking lots to view the show. Remember to get there early due to traffic! Especially since this year President Obama is speaking and that will probably cause some more delays .
