Horsethief Falls is located about an hour west of Colorado Springs.
This hike was completed in summer 2014 when our older boys were 3, 21 months, and I was 8 weeks pregnant with our third boy. Round trip was approximately 3 miles (our guidebook listed it as shorter so that is why we attempted it in the first place). Both boys were able to walk in, our younger one was in the Ergo on the way out.
The first 100 yards or so were the most challenging with steeper hills and more rocks on the path. Once you get past this point it opens up and it was quite enjoyable noticing the mossy trees.
The falls themselves are not the most impressive falls I’ve ever seen, but it was a good back drop for our snack-y lunch. Boulders around the falls can get a little wet! Not stroller accessible.
Location: From Colorado Springs go west on Highway 24, go through Divide and then go south on Highway 67. You will drive approximately 9 miles, then there will be a tunnel entrance on the left. Park just south of the tunnel. Not clearly marked but there should be a lot of cars
